When looking for a new position, it is vital to do your research to understand your real worth to an employer. This will help you position yourself in the best way and to secure the salary you are worth.
What are the key skills needed for the role you want? If you have them, highlight them, if you don’t, how can you get them?
Taking on extra responsibility to develop your skillset is one of the best ways to add value to your CV. You can also find courses to help whether the key skill is advanced excel, using code or delivering presentations.
Chat to friends in the industry, look at job boards, ask recruiters for advice. Deciding on a figure to aim for can be tough and although the age old 10% above your current salary is a good place to start if your current salary isn’t in line with the mark you may still be off.
A great way to find the market average for your current role is to use a Salary Survey Tool, this can be done from the comfort of your own home and no one needs to know you are considering a move. At Creative Personnel, we have developed our own tool specific to the area we recruit for so to find out what other similar employees to yourself are earning click here.
All in all, it's important to have a perspective of your professional value.
