The Open University is the UK’s largest university, a world leader in supported distance learning combining a mission to open access to higher education to all, with research excellence; transforming lives through education.
A career in marketing at The Open University is like no other. We are leading the way to ensure our unique and well-loved brand is as relevant today as it was at our launch in 1969 and we are at a hugely exciting point of our evolution. As part of our social justice commitment, we deliver lifelong learning to meet people all around the world at their individual points of need. We already provide a variety of products; from degrees to free short courses, podcasts and videos, and we are now rapidly expanding our offer in paid-for short courses.

The role

We are looking to appoint a product manager professional to join the Product Marketing team on a 12 month Fixed Term contract. You will complete robust market research and analysis to inform development of paid-for short courses. You will design compelling course content outlines and complete detailed briefs, commissioning your short course through to production.

Reporting to the Senior Product Marketing Manager, and part of a wider, new and growing team, you will be responsible for the management of product ranges in your subject area, building highly productive relationships with faculties, production teams and colleagues in marketing and communications to develop compelling products for learners.

Skills and experience
  • Are you passionate about customers, understanding their behaviours and needs?
  • Are you skilled in shaping and developing products from your own market research?
  • Can you manage a range of projects at different stages through to completion?
  • Can you build strong, positive relationships with stakeholders that drive action and strive to achieve?
  • Do you excel at communicating, be it simplifying detailed analysis or creating compelling product briefs?
  • Do you have experience of managing products and product ranges, from launch to retirement?
  • Are you at home with numbers and data; curious and want to know more?

We have a strong commitment to providing training and development in and beyond your current role. This includes thorough induction into the organisation and regular reviews of your training and development needs.

We also offer a great range of benefits that support our employees and their families for the long term. Benefits include an attractive pension proposition and 33 days holiday per annum pro rata, plus Bank Holidays and Christmas closure days.
